Regulation No. 1907/2006 (EC) REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) has implemented the European Community framework on the manufacture and sales of chemicals, with the aim of controlling the most dangerous ones and of replacing them with less harmful substances.
The European Commission has exempted glass and ceramic frits from Registration procedures, except when they meet the criteria for classification as dangerous substances according to Directive 67/548/EEC, and provided that they do not contain certain constituents classified as dangerous by the same Directive.
In consideration of the above, the CPIV (Comité Permanent des Industries du Verre) with the technical contribution of Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro has developed a technical protocol that allows glassmakers to verify whether or not their products are exempt from the application of the REACH regulation.
