In the case of ceramic and refractory materials, bulk density and open porosity are two properties strongly influenced by the parameters of the production process (raw materials, formulation, forming, firing), and can be put in close correlation to the other mechanical, thermo-mechanical and chemical resistance properties.
The determination of density and porosity is therefore the basis of the characterization of a ceramic material: SSV for this purpose uses Archimedes scales and vacuum impregnation systems, which ensure accurate and reproducible measurements following the UNI EN 993-1 standard.
