The particle size distribution of a raw material is a property of fundamental importance in determining its behaviour in the manufactoring processes where it finds application.
In the production of glass articles, for example, the size of the particles making up the vitrifiable mixture influences, for example, the melting kinetics, the generation of infuses and cords, the carry-over potential etc; in refractory materials production, on the other hand, it affects the workability and flow behaviour of the slurries/mixtures, the degree of sintering, the final microstructure, and the thermomechanical properties of the finished product.
SSV can perform particle size distribution analyses using both standardised sieves (for coarser materials) and laser granulometers (for the finer fractions).
